Halloween

Updated: Oct 18, 2022

Here we go.

I have always been a strong proponent of the Truth. One example of that Truth that I have consistently defended can be found in Romans 14:5. It says:

One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

In the passage, the Holy Spirit is making it clear that there are many things in the Christian life about which men may certainly disagree, as to the biblical Truth regarding the "issue." Clearly, however, the Holy Spirit is NOT saying that when the Bible is VERY CLEAR about an issue, Christians may just politely disagree about it.

In my experience as a messenger of God I have found that many Christians just want to hold on to their beliefs or TRADITIONS, regardless of what the Bible may say, even when that Truth is given with great clarity. What I am going to talk about now is NOT A MATTER OF OPINION. It is NOT something about which we may agree to disagree. Though I am certain that the Lord had led me to discuss this Truth, I am sure that this particular blog post will be one of the least popular ones. But, I am not called to be popular. It deeply saddens me, and I am certain that it even more deeply saddens the Lord, that some will read what is said here and just entirely ignore it.

Ignore my words as you like. But, we dare not ignore HIS WORDS!

1 Corinthians 10:21, 31- 21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

31...or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

2 Corinthians 6:14-17- 4 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

Ephesians 5:11-12- 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

1 Thessalonians 5:22- 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

I am not sure how it is possible for any person that considers himself [or herself] to be a "serious" Christian to have anything whatsoever to do with Halloween. Its deep Pagan roots and present-tense practices TODAY are literally entirely taken up with Satan and his darkness. here is what the Encyclopedia Britannica said about it in 2005:

“In ancient Britain and Ireland, the Celtic festival of Samhain was observed on October 31 at the end of the summer … The souls of the dead were supposed to revisit their homes on this day and the autumnal festival acquired sinister significance, with ghosts, witches, goblins, black cats, fairies and demons of all kinds said to be roaming about. It was the time to placate the supernatural powers controlling the processes of nature. In addition, Halloween was thought to be the most favorable time for divinations concerning marriage, luck, health, and death. It was the only day on which the help of the devil was invoked for such purposes.” (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2005, "Halloween")

And we cannot ignore the strong admonitions of the Lord when He warns us about casting stumbling blocks before weaker brethren.

Romans 14:15- 15 But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.

Now the same passage applied to involvement with the Pagan holiday, Halloween:

15 But if thy brother be grieved with thy involvement with Halloween, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy TRADITIONS, for whom Christ died.

The weak or new brother who sees or hears of one of us participating in Halloween may be led or feel pressured to participate himself, even though he does not have a clean conscience about the activity. For him, then, the activity is clearly sin, because it does not come from faith. This brother would have been pushed toward this sinful state by our indulgence.

Consider another aspect of this; who among us is weaker than our children? Can we take the risk of them seeing us participating, however marginally, in an activity rife with occultism? Jesus had harsh words for those who would cause such little ones to stumble! (Matthew 18:6) We work so hard at protecting them from the evil world around them; will we then be guilty of corrupting them for the sake of a celebration of that very evil?
